Raheen Wood Steiner School Launch Hurling and Camogie
Hurling and Camogie has been introduced to Raheen Wood Steiner
School in East
Clare. The School has had up to 50 children from 8-12 years old out
training on Scariff GAA pitch for the past eight weeks.
The school held an official launch recently to acknowledge the
help and
assistance they have received to date, to introduce the school and the
children to the various bodies involved in Hurling, and make a request
for help and assistance with coaching.
Raheen Wood Steiner school has 110 Children in attendance and
has now been established in East Clare for 21 years. Many of the
parents would not be from Hurling strongholds so it is imperative that
coaching assistance be put in place to teach the skills correctly from
day one.
"It's great to see this group follow the great
Irish
tradition" said Clare senior Hurling Manager Mike McNamara
who attended along with Sean Chaplin the Games promotion Officer with
Clare GAA. Sean O Halloran, Chairman of Bord na N-og was delighted with
the turnout out and said it was imperative that the local clubs support
the initative.
Representatives from the Scarriff senior, minor and camogie
clubs were all in attendance and made a presentation of equipment to
the school along with the continuing use of facilities.
Brian Culloo, Secretary of Cumann na m-bunscoil said it will
be great to see a new school represented in the competitions from now
on and also offered continued support for the initiative.
The School would like to thank all those clubs and individuals who have given support to date and welcome any offer of equipment or coaching assistance. A special thank you also goes to Derg Credit Union for the generous cash donation in support of this initiative.
